As a federally certified community development financial institution (CDFI), our job is to make finance an agent of positive change and equitable growth. We provide loans, grants and technical assistance to businesses and nonprofits. Our borrowers and grantees educate students, support local economies, and create jobs. They build affordable housing and provide community goods and services that include access to nutritious food, hunger relief, physical and mental health care, and other social services.

At Reinvestment Fund, you’ll be part of a talented and passionate team of communicators and business development staff, lenders, portfolio managers, analysts, grant program managers, accountants, and policy researchers who bring their unique talents to our mission.

We are seeking the guidance and expertise of a DEI expert to continue building on Reinvestment Funds efforts towards a culture of equity and inclusion for all employees and ensuring organization activities are aligned with DEI as a fundamental pillar of the Reinvestment Fund.

This is a new and exciting position for Reinvestment Fund and while the job description may be aspirational, we are passionate about promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.  We are approaching this important process with openness as to what we can learn from each candidate and are hopeful to better shape the role based on that process.  Although we would prefer a full-time employee who can help mold the organization and become an integral part of its future, we are also open to the possibility of a contractor hire to help us form the structure and culture that will house our DEI priorities.

Work Location

Reinvestment Fund is maintaining a 100% remote work environment through early 2022 due to COVID. Reinvestment Fund expects to provide a flexible work arrangement that will be a hybrid home/office work arrangement in 2022 and beyond. It is anticipated that a combination of working remote and a minimum number of days in a Reinvestment Fund office location will allow for face-to-face interactions. Depending on the nature of the job, a more flexible work schedule may be considered.

About the Position

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a strategic partner who has a track record of building systemic change and implementing a variety of DEI programs, assessing gaps and measuring progress with a passion to promote meaningful, long-lasting change.

They are skilled at promoting the organization’s mission through subject matter expertise, influential leadership, outstanding written and verbal skills, and program management.

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will report to the CEO, with a dotted-line report to the CHRO and COO.

Areas of Focus
  • Develop and lead a multi-year strategy and implementation of our current DEI action plan for enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Design new and amplify existing DEI strategies and methodologies, propose and lead equity building programs that recognize the importance of intersectional diverse identities
  • Build short, medium and long-term recommendations for DEI gaps, distinct efforts for diversity/representation needs, detailed policy changes for equity, and comprehensive experience focused approaches
  • Partner with the Executive Team, internal stakeholders, and DEI ambassadors within strategic planning teams
  • Build structure, governance, and framework for employee involvement
  • Provide vision and expertise to guide company focus areas; establish prioritization based on impact and equity for projects
  • Handle project management tracking and visibility for ongoing initiatives
  • Provide counsel and mentorship to people managers on inclusive standard methodologies associated with diverse teams, and align inclusion initiatives with organizational DEI mission & vision
  • Develop & track DEI goals, metrics, & reports that will help us focus our efforts & communicate our impact by conducting analyses and developing recommendations
  • Design, implement and manage training programs related to DEI initiatives
  • Partner with the Communications team on effective internal and external communication and branding around our DEI strategy, commitment, updates and community involvement
Education and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 7+ years of experience leading equity-related work at the Director or leadership level in a similar capacity
  • Skilled in translating external and internal trends into innovative and creative practices
  • 5+ years of experience with diversity content development and facilitation
  • 5+ years of experience with project management, strategic operations, strategy consulting, and designing data-driven diversity program strategies
Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to build and manage strong, collaborative working relationships in a matrix structure and carry high credibility with C-suite, as well as, influence at all organizational levels
  • Ability to think strategically and translate business needs into concrete action plans
  • Demonstrated facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to analyze data to generate insights
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing position demands and shifting organizational priorities
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, problem solve, and manage time
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the opportunity for creativity
  • Demonstrated capability to manage and lead work through others by providing clear direction and consistent communication
  • Excellence in managing multiple projects and priorities in a hands-on approach while being resourceful and innovative at tackling challenges to meet deadlines
