Adam Kellner
Finance Intern

Where do you go to school and what are you studying towards?
I am a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a dual degree in Finance and Information Systems with a minor in actuarial mathematics.

What attracted you to Reinvestment Fund for a summer internship?
Reinvestment Fund’s emphasis on using high levels of statistical and financial analysis in order to bring affordable capital to people who otherwise would not have access to it perfectly aligns with my passion to help people and my interests in financial analysis and data modeling.

What are some of the things you will be working on for Reinvestment Fund during your internship? What do you hope to learn from your internship here?
I will be building various models for projects including capital allocation and writeoff predictions, running interest rate reports, reviewing compliance processes, and assisting in internal workflow projects. I am looking forward to learning how CDFIs value projects and investments differently from traditional financial entities.

Share something interesting you have learned about Reinvestment Fund or the industry in your time here.
I learned that while there is a lot of room for traditional financial analysis in assessing investments at a CDFI, CDFIs have the interesting question of how to value investments through methods other than strict financial return functions. They must ask and determine how to evaluate the social and humanitarian return of a project in addition to its financial return.
