Where do you go to school and what are you studying towards?
I am a rising junior at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania concentrating in Operations and Social Impact.
What attracted you to Reinvestment Fund for a summer internship?
Reinvestment Fund’s mission of investing in and revitalizing underserved communities was something that resonated with me, especially as a Social Impact major. I knew a summer interning at Reinvestment Fund would mean an opportunity to build on my financial background, gain new skills, and learn about the nonprofit sector all while being a part of an organization that aims to bring about positive and sustainable development to marginalized neighborhoods.
What are some of the things you will be working on for Reinvestment Fund during your internship? What do you hope to learn from your internship here?
I will be working with the asset management team to assist with ongoing portfolio reviews for the different housing, healthcare, commercial and community projects. This will entail gathering borrower financials and creating spreads that allow for analyzing the financial health of our borrowers. In addition, I will also be conducting project site visits with the portfolio managers to assess the performance of our borrowers that goes beyond analyzing their financials. Another one of my roles is to keep Reinvestment Fund’s financial compliance database up to date with the most recent information we have on our borrowers. Finally, I will be creating an online manual for new interns/ new employees that should aid with the onboarding process of future hires.

I think the most interesting thing I have learned about so far is the New Markets Tax Credit program that Reinvestment Fund partakes in for several loans. To me, this program is a revolutionary way to bring much needed capital into distressed communities while allowing CDFI’s like Reinvestment Fund maintain a low risk profile.
