Meghan Swan
Communications & Investor Development Intern

Where do you go to school and what are you studying towards?
I graduated from Providence College this past May, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Business Studies and a core focus in Social Justice.

What attracted you to Reinvestment Fund for a summer internship?
After graduating, I wanted to be in a place where I would be constantly learning about community development. Reinvestment Fund is the perfect place to do so. I’ve seen constant collaboration with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders within community development including but not limited to government officials, for-profit companies, nonprofit organizations, private foundations, and fellow CDFIs. I was immediately attracted to this collaboration and crossover between sectors. I believe that the engagement of all parties in community development yield the most effective impact. I’m looking forward to engaging with this network committed to making a positive change in our communities.

What are some of the things you will be working on for Reinvestment Fund during your internship? What do you hope to learn from your internship here?
As a part of the Communications and Investor Development department, I will be updating and creating new profiles of projects that Reinvestment Fund has led and been a part of. This will include creating print and web content surrounding lending projects, utilization of our policy tools, and development of new initiatives. I hope that while learning about the work that Reinvestment Fund is doing, I will be able to learn more about where my interests lie in navigating a career in this field. I also hope to get to know my co-workers and learn about their paths.

Share something interesting you have learned about Reinvestment Fund or the industry in your time here.
I am constantly learning new things about Reinvestment Fund and the industry, but for now, the most interesting part of Reinvestment Fund I have found is its history. Over 30 year strong, the organization has been a leading CDFI in community development. It has grown from focusing on the Philadelphia and mid-Atlantic areas to now having projects nationally. I am grateful to be a part of such history and expertise and I look forward to watching Reinvestment Fund lead in national community development and revitalization.

Is there anything else that you would like to share that we didn’t ask you?
I love getting to know people and places! This summer I have named myself the “Intern Social Coordinator” and got most of my fellow interns together for lunch our second week. We have continued enjoying each other’s company at weekly happy hours at locations near the office, and hope to attend a Phillies game sometime soon. If you have any ideas of what social event I should coordinate next, let me know. Anyone is always welcome to join!
