Interns

Wilton Oliver
Communications & Investor Development Intern

Where do you go to school and what are you studying towards?
I attend the University of Pennsylvania and studying towards a double major in Urban Studies and Sociology.

What attracted you to Reinvestment Fund for an internship?
I was familiar with their work and accomplishments in community development and was interested in learning firsthand how a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) brings positive change to communities.

What are some of the things you will be working on for Reinvestment Fund during your internship? What do you hope to learn from your internship here?
I will be working on various profiles of projects that Reinvestment Fund has been involved with, which allows me to work and communicate with the organizations and investors with whom we are partners. I am also working with the team to promote a new initiative called Invest Health that brings together diverse leaders from mid-sized U.S. cities to develop new strategies to increase and advocate for investments toward improving the health in communities around the country.

Share something interesting you have learned about Reinvestment Fund or the industry in your time here.
I’ve learned how important collaboration is in the community development field. Because we are all striving to achieve the same goal, collaboration on all levels, including between CDFIs, Community Development Corporations, and local legislators, is the corner stone to making gains towards equality in communities. I saw various acts of collaboration at the Invest Health Conference during my first week working at Reinvestment Fund and to see leaders from around the country exchanging ideas and lessons they’ve learned in their respective fields was powerful and progressive.

Is there anything else that you would like to share that we didn’t ask you?
I’m born and raised in Philadelphia and now attend University here but I am still finding out new and great things about the city every day, so if you have any suggestions of some hidden treasures in the city that I should visit I’m all ears.

College(s) attended: University of Pennsylvania, Urban Studies and Sociology with a concentration in Law & Society (expected graduation May 2017)
