Increasing Choice: Schools

Every child deserves a high-quality education and charter schools can be innovative options. TRF is proud to finance some of the finest in the country.

TRF has lent

$184 million

to 64 charter schools in
the mid-Atlantic region.

In the late ‘90s, charter schools were viewed as an “emerging market” by conventional lenders. Taking the early risk, TRF demonstrated the credit worthiness of charter schools, syndicated debt to facilitate conventional capital access and helped pave the way for traditional lenders. We built the field from a high-risk, boutique product to a conventionally accepted credit opportunity in the capital markets.

Today, TRF remains a leading source of patient capital to high-quality charter schools. From startup to mature schools, TRF continues to support charter schools’ facility needs.

Although schools turn to TRF for capital, they also rely on our expertise in making such complex projects work. The school entrepreneur’s job is education; our job is creating the financing that facilitates success, as seen with schools like Mastery Charter Schools, which was recently applauded by President Obama for its outstanding results turning around low-achieving schools.

To date, TRF has provided $184 million in financing to 64 schools, serving over 29,207 students. Click to view a slide show of TRF-financed charter schools. Watch slide show
