These reports estimate demand, supply, and shortage of care across the District and describe where strategic investments can best support families and children.

The 2023 update provides a detailed look at how D.C.’s landscape has evolved since our original report was released in 2018. From declining supply and shifts in demand, this new report illuminates key trends and highlights the critical importance of supporting the child care sector with targeted investments and strategic improvements.

The executive summary and accompanying website (featuring interactive digital maps) provide an overview of the key findings and a breakdown of the data across neighborhoods in D.C.
