Where do you go to school and what are you studying towards?
I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in City Planning at the School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, along with a Certificate in GIS & Spatial Analysis.
What attracted you to Reinvestment Fund for a summer internship?
Soon into my graduate program, Reinvestment Fund quickly stood out to be one of the major, high-capacity CDFIs that continue to make a tangible difference in many communities. Moreover, the company’s own policy analytics department and the PolicyMap platform perfectly aligned with my interest in spatial analysis and passion for open access to social data and responsible data management.
What are some of the things you will be working on for Reinvestment Fund during your internship? What do you hope to learn from your internship here?
Working in the Policy Solutions Department, some of my major contributions will be in the Early Childhood Education Analytics projects for Philadelphia and Atlanta. I also am assisting in 2017 Limited Supermarket Access update, which excitingly will provide me an opportunity to explore the intersection between my two long-standing interests – spatial analysis and food systems planning. On a more technical side, I am looking forward to gaining proficiency in SQL and learning about place-based research methodologies.
Share something interesting you have learned about Reinvestment Fund or the industry in your time here.
I thoroughly enjoyed the quarterly Policy Solutions – PolicyMap Summit I attended last month. In addition to getting introduced to wonderful talents over at the PolicyMap office, it was so exciting to see how each team’s work can enhance and complement that of the other.
Is there anything else that you would like to share that we didn’t ask you?
I have an identical twin sister who is a full-time accountant in Korea and my on-demand finance tutor. When she’s not helping me decipher financial statements for class or telling me cool excel tricks, she is supplying me with an endless stream of photos and videos of my newborn niece.
